Texas is probably the most diverse state in terms of nature and climatic conditions in the United States. Its southern regions are partially swampy,  while the western ones lie in the dry, rocky deserts of the foothills; the north is rich in prairies, and there are many deciduous forests in the east.

The symbols of the state are the bluebonnet, the pecan tree, the prickly pear cactus, the Texas longhorn. The state has one World Heritage Site: San Antonio Missions, consisting of five mission sites, a historic ranch, and related properties.

Texas is the 28th state of the United States, admitted to the Union in 1845. Before this, it was under the rule of Spain, France, and Mexico at various times. Its capital is Austin. The largest city is Houston, nicknamed Space City, as it is home to Manned Spacecraft Center. Other major cities: Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio.
